Slip-on flanges must be slid onto the pipe before welding. Then it is double weld both inside and outside, providing the durability they need to avoid leaks. Their pressure resistance is rated at approximately 2/3 of that of a welding neck flange.
Slip-on flanges are suitable for low-pressure applications and are easy to install.
